Steve Tarpey

Consultant member

Steve combines extensive commercial and ‘real world’ management experience with outstanding credentials as a coach, developer, facilitator and organisational development (OD) practitioner.

His commercial experience draws on many years' general and senior management experience in one of the UK’s major banks together with 20 years supporting organisations and leaders from all parts of the public, private and not-for-profit sectors both in the UK and globally. He is also a long-standing faculty member of Roffey Park’s renowned MSc in People and Organisational Development.

Steve applies strong critical thinking and personal reflexivity to his practice, along with a passion (bordering on an obsession!) with developing these skills in others.

Background

Steve gained experience as a manager and leader in financial services for 20 years before specialising in people and organisational development for 20 years since. The latter has included 10 years as a consultant and director with the renowned Roffey Park Institute and a further 10 years as an independent consultant and associate of various development organisations.

Experience and expertise

Steve’s work ranges from coaching senior leaders, devising and delivering leadership development programmes, often for diverse and global groups (one programme had participants from 50 nationalities), to wide-ranging consultancy projects. His experience has included working for clients in the USA, Brazil and Singapore. He has offered consultancy and facilitation support to organisations across a wide range of issues including Organisation Design, strategy development, major change initiatives, and culture-based interventions

Steve also has significant experience in working at senior executive and board level in a variety of settings. At ease with ‘conflict’ and emotions, he see these moments as a real opportunities for people to be curious about their own responses and to genuinely inquire into the experience of ‘the other’.  He brings strengths of understanding and working with intrapersonal, interpersonal, team/group and organisational issues and is able to help clients and participants create links between these different domains of experience. He is currently working with a ‘top team’ of a large UK financial institution to review their team process following a major downsizing and with senior Church of England Bishops to create a strategic plan for a Diocese that is facing a crisis. His coaching clients include: senior public sector figures, a Director of an international NGO, a CEO of a Pension company and two senior Church of England bishops.
